R. A. “Bobby” Horvath is a petroleum engineer living in
Broussard, Louisiana, with his wife “Miss Bettie.” A 1975
BEEE graduate of Youngstown State University, Mr.
Horvath accepted a position with the Department of Navy
at the Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head, Maryland.
However, after four years of designing instrumentation systems for the ballistic testing of “fleet return” missiles, he
grew restless. Seeking “hands-on” engineering opportunities, Mr. Horvath accepted a position as a well logging engineering trainee with Schlumberger Ltd., and from that
day to the present, the “Oil Patch” has been his professional
passion.
“Each well is unique; each exhibits distinct characteristics,” he explained. “In that respect, they parallel humans.
Some are energetic; some are weary and passive; some
even have attitude. Some project almost unlimited potential; others reveal ordinary, everyday attributes. That’s what
I love about my job. Each day is a new challenge. I never get bored.”
Mr. Horvath is an avid sports enthusiast, following all major pro sports as well as the local/state collegiate teams
(UL Ragin’ Cajuns and LSU Tigers). Primarily, he enjoys
outdoor activities (camping and fishing) but also has a fascination with ancient architecture: The Pyramids, the Roman arch, China’s Great Wall, etc. This is his first novel.
